On a warm and sunny Sunday morning, spring summoned itself onto a quaint corner of Valencia street. In all it's fragility, a dandelion merely visible, drifted between all those standing in line. I had hopes of nabbing it, and while I was unsuccessful, the sentiment just the same, made me smile about the possibilities that were yet to come. The possibilities of the city rebuilding itself, and of being here, standing in a line that quickly grew in length behind us. We waited with baited breath, fur babies panting as well, for the appearance of a charismatic yet humble gentleman. And he appeared with his sister and other family members, breathing life and a well anticipated hype into the crowd. The DJ set the soundtrack and it was a block party, and it reminded me of how Frisco used to be. A myriad of people from all walks of life, made their way up to a sole food truck to place their order. What landed in our bag, was a vegan shrimp po' boy with just the
right amount of pickled sweetness from garnish a of homemade slaw. The right amount of shrimp and toasted butter on a tasty roll, is a surefire way to execute this delicious sandwich to the top of my rankings. The fried chicken flavorful and boasting of texture and fullness of the real thing, it was too good to be true. Vegan rib tips were smokey and indulgent. Best partnered with smackaroni. A side of fried shrimp sealed the deal, and solidified the presence and Frisco's welcoming for the Vegan Mob to make this make their mark, in a place they already called home.
